Laminate flooring
Laminate flooring gives you a wood-look floor that stands up to daily life — at a price that leaves room in the budget for whatever else your project needs.
What to know
Laminate is a synthetic flooring made from a high-density fiberboard core, a photographic design layer that mimics wood grain, and a hard protective wear layer on top. Modern laminate is dramatically better than the laminate your parents had — sharper imagery, better texture, better durability.
Both are planks that click together and float over the subfloor. The biggest difference: LVP is fully waterproof, laminate is water-resistant. Laminate also tends to feel more rigid underfoot and can look even more like real wood in certain styles. The right choice depends on your rooms and your priorities.
Living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, dining rooms — anywhere you'd put hardwood but don't want hardwood prices. We generally don't recommend laminate for bathrooms or full basements — that's where LVP shines.
Why laminate
Laminate gets unfairly dismissed as 'the cheap option.' The truth is, it's a legitimately good floor — especially for families and rental properties.
